This was the first show in a long time and I was joined by Jamie. Partly due to the lack of good bands playing during the summer and also other shows required dancing. I can’t dance alone and I dance pretty awkwardly when with others. Junip were a perfect to ease me back in. They were pretty great live and I’d see them again. The drummer stuck out the most to me. He did a pretty great job. Surprisingly the support act was pretty decent. As for ‘Sound Control’ as a venue was actually all right. The sound system wasn’t too bad I’d have to see more bands there before I can list it as a good venue. Crowd was getting into it except for some quite odd stiff people at the front row. Not sure if I have the live show fever yet.
Tonight sky was absolutely stunning. I could see some constellations it was so clear. It was also pretty dam cold but I couldn’t complain after how wonderful the view was. However the rest of the night was maybe not so wonderful.
I went kind of like this. I arrived at the venue for about 8(ish) found out that the gig didn’t start till 9pm. So since the sky was so nice I went for a wander around town to find a place I could just stare. Couldn’t find a place within the hour so I just went to the bank and headed back. I ran into a crowd outside the theatre and a fair few were dressed up. Instantly knew that Rocky horror Picture show was on. It’s nice to see people make an effort for the theatre. I saw baths who were brilliant and he bro fisted me twice. After the show I told a friend I’d meet him at Matt and Fred’s at 11pm. So we’d go out for some jazz after, but it being a fiver to get in we said fuck that. We headed to the Thirsty Scholar and had a drink. As we sat down outside we noticed that the music shop had a massive queue of people to get in. (sorry zaffle I didn’t get a pic. I didn’t have my camera on me) It must have been the place to be with all the young people there and the filthy hipsters. One particular hipster had one eyebrow up constantly and giving off a serious look. He also had a low cut top so low it was about to show his belly button. Me and my friend Dan had a good laugh and it was perfect people watching time. Since the new bar/venue was in an alley and the orange heaters were on everywhere. We called it Orange light district were you’ll find people so scantly dressed they might as well be hookers. It was a shame so many girls looked like they were freezing. One girl in particular was in some were tight pvc purple pants and was absolutely freezing. I looked at her and said “poor thing” then dan made me repeat it louder. Her bf saw us pitying her. He then decides after that he’d try and warm her up. She quickly brushed him off and walked off into a puff.
We were joined by two people from wakey (Wakefield). They were proper northerners. Ellen and Dave. I finally know a guy named Dave from wakey. (it seems that everyone knows a Dave from wakey) They asked if we knew of a good place they could dance a bit and have good drinks. We named a few places but they didn’t want to walk anymore so Dan told them to just try Subspace/Space. They were having a bit of a domestic so we took that time to leave. We headed for the next bar. We weren’t sure where so we just headed for the Northan quarter. You’ll find the trendy good bars and pubs here. They’ll have a good selection of alcohol but you won’t find a drink cheaper than £3.50 here. Checked Trof and TV 21 both packed full and noisy so we gave them a miss. We went to another bar around the corner (forgotten the name) it looked really nice. Unfortunately we’d have to pay to get in. We then headed towards Gullivers. As we were walking a random girl shouted out “HEY JESUS”. My friend Dan turned around and there were 2 girls. Not bad looking but lord did they want him. As it goes he knew them. We tried to sneak off a few times but they kept pulling him back. It was cold and quite irritating. They were heading to Guilivers so we had to go to a different bar. We even considered going to Night and Day. We instead went to Soup Kitchen. It’s was lovely and warm inside they ever still served soup. The bartender (dan knew) said it was the best in the world. After the drink there we had a long chat about random stuff. It looks like a nice place for lunch too.
Dan kindly walked to the station. Not sure why we were going there considering it was 1:30am and all trains had since stopped running part from that 1 Manchester airport train that left at 00:54am. We sat down and warmed a bit up in the train station. Talked a bit more when 2 white trash guys stood opposite us finished their food and decided to engage us in conversation. One talked to my friend Dan. The other just stood there. The guy came over and sat next to Dan. Obviously he wanted to provoke Dan into a fight. Whilst this happened his friend looked at me and said the following.
Random white trash: Do you like to nick niggers?
Me: Excuse me. I didn’t hear you?
RWT: I said do you hate niggers?
Me: I’ve not really met many black people so not really.
RWT: I fucking hate them. They can fuck off the lot of them.
Me: …
He then wanders off to bother a woman who missed her train and had to get the next one at like 6am. His friend was still sat next to Dan trying to provoke him in a fight. The guy then asks me where we are from. He insults warrington. Then he tries to insult my place. we ask him where he is from and he says Salford. Salford isn’t a bad place but it does contain scummy people. Evidently one of them was here and drunk and annoying. The cleaner asked us to move so he could move the bench back. We took this chance to leave. The drunk followed us and tried to provoke us again.
Drunk White Trash: Are you lovers?
Dan: Why yes. Yes we are.
(not the first time Dan has said this in a joking manner. The first time was when his African work colleague asked. After Dan said yes. the African man stroked his chin and looked at me with predator eyes. I don’t think I want to go back to that cinema again.)
Me: N…
DWT: What?
Dan: *laugh* no we aren’t.
DWT: Look mate don’t be funny with me. You looking for a fight? are you laughing at me?
Dan + me: What?
DWT: Why did you tell me to stand up and move.
Me: Well the cleaner wanted to move the bench back after he had finished cleaning.
DWT: Ah right. *pulls out his hand* hand on my heart this hand shake has my heart and soul in it.
Me: *shake his hand firmly and I squeeze a bit* Oh thats nice. Well we have to go now.
DWT: You know who you remind me of.
Me: No who? John wayne?
DWT: *laughs* no mate you remind me of uncle chan’s chippy.
Dan: Well isn’t that lovely well have a good night.
DWT: Why don’t you just suck his dick.
(fuck yeah dam right I am the top)
Dan: We are leaving.
So we left the drunk although Dan was pretty riled up. If we didn’t leave I’m sure it would have broken out into a fight. I felt sorry for the girl who was waiting for her train. Unfortunately there are only cleaning staff there at night and they won’t get involved.
Got a taxi home and the driver tried to talk to me. He was quite annoying. He brought up random things. I wanted to sit in peace and just get home. After I got out. The sky was getting cloudy. I could see the moon so clearly still. Its beacon wiped away the distaste I had left by that drunk white trash. I then found myself watching the moon with a cat behind me. As soon as i turned around it jumped into the neighbours front garden. I walked slowly toward the fence to look. It quickly darted out and around the corner. I followed it for a bit but then I remember I unlocked the door. I headed back.
I end the night watching ken play with his cats, a cup of tea and a Lion bar.
Band: Nouvelle Vague
Venue: Academy 3
It was a great live show. They played a fair few covers and did some original songs. I believe they had a different (blonde) singer. She was utterly amazing. She oozed sex appeal and energy. Considering I didn’t actually know about the show till half an hour till the doors opened. I was pleasantly surprised.
Currently on their UK tour and tonight was their first show. If you can see them totes do it.
So after Yann Tiersen here are a few things I remember.
Overall a pretty good night.
Amazed at the fact that people stood around in a giant circles around “entertainers”. Fine you want to watch the man and see if he moves. He doesn’t move till you give him money. So you tight fisted arseholes give him some dam money or at least don’t block the whole path.
Phrases I wanted to say/shout all day long:
“Move it Cracker”
“Move yo honkey ass”
“MOVE IT FOR THE LOVE OF THAT MANS GOD *point at the crazy bible spouting preacher*”
Things I found out today:
1. They closed the large Whittards. The girls working in the shops selling coffee beans/grounded coffee don’t real know what the coffee they are selling tastes like. I asked for a good bean that can be drank filtered and black. The girl goes on about mocha and lattes. Then describes a bean as a medium medium. I gave up went with the kenya because “it has an almost toasty taste”.
2. Found out there was a food festival going on at St Ann’s square. Looks like a good place to try out some beers/ales. However didn’t really try any of the food. Also the german christmas market should be coming soon(ish)
3. Northan Quarter is as nearly rammed full as market street on Saturdays.
I’m not really sure how this would go down well in anyway. It’s not like nurses are being paid like doctors are. As far as I know we aren’t exactly in the position of a large repository of nurses. Considering their job is stressful and they have to be compassionate around the clock. All it will do is pile up more stress on the job and deter people from working in the NHS hospitals.
Seeing Horse Feathers tomorrow at Salford The Kings Arms pub. It’s been too long since I was at a gig.
I’m not sure if its just manchester or this is true for a lot of cities around the globe but a lot of weird people appear. Ignoring the random people who “cosplay” for no reason and look like crap because they have no pride in it. I saw a man wearing a Pink shirt with bright blue collar and around the arm cuffs(?) it was yellow and around the waist it was green. I kind of wanted that shirt. I was with my friend Yvonne and it’s always weird seeing guys stare at her. I obviously watch them look at her and then they realise i’m looking at them. I shoot them a smile and give them the “who’s the dirty pervert look”, but today it was like enforce. Sometimes the guys/girls who look at her give me a dirty look after. Since they assume we are together.
Had a rather rude driver shout at us from his car window. Since he wanted to turn into a road we were the process of crossing.
Then there was the general over crowdedness. Never go clothes shopping on a saturday if you can help it. Especially if you have to go to primark.
Artist: Nina Simone
Song: Feeling Good.
Right now this is how I feel. God dam I love revolver.

It was quite the busy night and totally unexpected. I don’t think Manchester will put on a show quite like this in a while. Finally able to witness a live orchestra whilst not have a sleep was truly wonderful experience I would like to again sooner rather than later.
